Let’s get this out of the way: if you are writing and plan to sell your work, this is a business. Yes, it may be a tiny startup right now, but it’s still a business and I’m here to encourage you to think of it that way.
And who am I do give this advice?
I could point out that I have 20+ years experience as an editor and writer for magazines and newspapers. Or that I’ve been a Pitch Wars mentee and mentor. Or that I’ve been in the query trenches more than once. Had an agent, fired an agent, and landed a new agent. Or… Or… Or…
Bottom line: we’ve all got opinions, and when you’re trying to navigate your way through this challenging process, you need all the support you can get. And that’s what I’m all about.
